How Long Can You Leave Vape Juice Open?

If you have opened your vape juice, You can leave vape juice for upto two years once it has been opened and then adequately sealed. Make sure you store your e-liquid in a cool, dry place to get the most out of it.

Storing e-liquid incorrectly is a common mistake — after all, some of us like to buy e-liquids in bulk to save money or try a larger array of vape flavours. Sometimes we find ourselves losing the cap to our vapes, and since quality e-juice doesn’t always come in cheap nowadays, we’ll want to ensure we can taste it to its last puff.

So if you have a bottle of e-juice lying around somewhere uncapped, it might be good for you to know how long you can actually leave vape juice open. When will it go bad? Or when will it stop tasting as good anymore?

Let’s break it down with science. The longer you leave it out in the open, the more your vape juice loses its flavour, and this is a result of a process called oxidisation, where oxygen in the air combines with your vape juice, decomposing it, leaving only certain molecules in the liquid behind in much higher concentration levels.

This makes the flavour of the e-juice poorer, making it deliver less nicotine than you were used to when it was freshly opened. Nicotine molecules will evaporate into the surroundings, making your vaping experience less intense.

It is normal for your vape juice to change slightly in colour, this is still completely ok to vape, and you'll experience not much difference compared to before.

How Long Does Vape Juice Last Unopened?

Vape juice will last around two years if it has been unopened. It is essential to store e-liquids in a cool, dry place. Exposing your vape juice to heat and light will reduce its shelf life.

If you leave a vape pod opened and exposed to the surroundings for too long, you can end up with a juice that has now been combined with too much oxygen and thus tastes less like the sweet flavours you bought and leave a sour, vinegar-like stench on your tongue.

This signal might mean that it no longer delivers the vaping experience you wanted and enjoyed when the vape was first opened. We understand the want to ensure the vape is used till its last drop — so here’s our answer: how long vape juice lasts unopened depends on vape to vape.

Some vapes are made less equal than others, so look out for the vape you’ve left on a shelf for too long. Try smelling it to see if it still has the same flavour you bought. If it does, you can still try puffing it and test for a few things — whether the hit is as strong as before, whether the taste is pleasant or foul, whether it still churns out vapour, and whether you’re still getting your nicotine hit. If the answer to these questions is all ‘yes’, then your vape juice is still good to go.

What Happens If You Leave The Cap Off Vape Juice?

If you leave it off for a short time — maybe for a day or two in your pocket — it should still taste the same as it did when you first bought it. If you leave the cap off of vape juice for too long, then you might cause the e-juice to expire. It will start losing its flavour and even turn sour, and one of the tell-tale signs is that the juice starts darkening in colour.

If it turns into a dark, murky sludge, you should probably stay far away from it as it has passed its expiry date. Vape juice oxidises over time and loses its flavour, so be sure to screw the cap on tightly after each use — so you can get the best vaping experience each time!
