Currently, there are 3 types of Geek Bars that Geek Vape has manufactured.
These are the Geek Bar, Geek Bar Lite and Geek Bar Pro.
The Geek Bar and Geek Bar Lite are TPD compliant and legal in the UK.
However, the Geek Bar Pro devices are not TPD compliant and are the only range out of the three that is illegal in the UK.
Why Is The Geek Bar Pro Illegal In The UK?
The Geek Bar Pro disposables are not TPD compliant. TPD rules state that nicotine cannot be present in an e-cigarette with an e-liquid capacity greater than 2ml.
The Geek Bar Pro has an e-liquid capacity of 4.5ml and contains 20mg (2%) nicotine, which means it is illegal to sell to end consumers in the UK.
Conversely, the standard Geek Bar has an e-liquid capacity of 2ml, whilst the Geek Bar Lite has an e-liquid capacity of 1.8ml. Both these are TPD compliant and are legal for stores to sell and anyone over the age of 18 to purchase and vape.
The standard Geek Bar and Geek Bar Lite disposable vapes are available on IndeJuice, which offers unlimited free one-day delivery for orders over £20 to anywhere in the UK.
What Is TPD and What Does It Mean?
TPD stands for the Tobacco Products Directive. This was created by the EU (European Union) in 2014 to regulate the tobacco products sold to consumers from May 2016 onwards.
These rules applied to other countries throughout Europe and not just the UK.
The key TPD rules are:
- Vapes can not hold more than 2ml of nicotine-containing e-liquid.
- E-liquid can only contain a maximum of 20mg (2%) of nicotine.
- E-liquids that contain nicotine can only be sold in bottles with a max volume of 10ml.
Before anyone can launch a product, manufacturers must submit their product information to the MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency).
The MHRA will check to see if these products meet these criteria.
The MHRA is responsible for implementing most provisions under part 6 of the Tobacco and Related Products Regulations (TRPR).
Why Have These Rules Been Implemented?
The Tobacco and Related Products Regulations ensure consumers' health and safety, protect the environment and prevent children from using these products.
The TRPR was introduced to ensure that minimum standards are kept in e-liquids.
Many of the vaping rules and regulations can be seen on the UK Government website.
Nicotine is an addictive substance, and these regulations have been implemented to ensure the safety of all vaping users.
The standard Geek Bar and Geek Bar Lite have been accepted by the MHRA and are legal to sell in the UK as they meet the requirements set by the TRPR.
