Can You Vape Just PG And VG?

Published 2 August 2022

Can You Vape Just PG And VG?

Yes, it is possible to vape a juice that is just Propylene Glycol (PG) or Vegetable Glycerin (VG). Still, it is recommended that you go for a blend of both PG and VG as this will provide both a strong flavour and satisfying nicotine hit on the throat.

Propylene Glycol.

Propylene Glycol (PG) is one of the main base ingredients that make eliquid. PG is a much thinner substance compared to VG, but PG is a much better carrier of both flavourings and nicotine than VG, which is why most people would choose to go for a PG/VG blend in their vape juice. Vaping just PG in a vaping device is possible. Still, it would not be recommended as this would provide no nicotine satisfaction and a not very pleasant flavour unless flavour concentrates have been added. Flavour concentrates are also made in a PG liquid form, as well as some of the nicotine available to buy on the market.

Vegetable Glycerin.

Vegetable Glycerin (VG) is another main base ingredient that makes up vape juice. VG has a much thicker viscosity than PG and is most commonly used with the bigger mod-style vapes capable of producing large clouds. Although it is possible to vape just VG alone, it would not be recommended as it would carry no benefits. As flavour concentrate and a majority of nicotine bottles are made from PG, 100% VG would not supply any satisfaction from the nicotine unless you use VG-based nicotine, and it would not provide much of a flavour other than the slight sweetness that is naturally found in VG.

When both PG and VG are mixed, this provides a perfect blend of cloud production, nicotine amount and flavour depending on which of these three things you are trying to achieve. For example, if you wanted to produce a huge cloud with a small amount of nicotine, something like 6mg, you would aim for a blend of around 70/30 VG/PG, whilst if you wanted to produce a more natural amount of vapour, similar to a cigarette. If you wanted to experience a similar throat hit of a traditional cigarette, you would find that anything containing 60/40 PG/VG or more PG in your desired nicotine strength would be ideal.

So although it is possible to vape just PG or VG on their own, it would be extremely rare to see a brand of vape juice releasing any juices containing 100% PG or VG and would not be widely available unless it is being purchased to create your own blends of vape juices which would still have the intention of being mixed with VG, PG, Nicotine and flavour concentrate to create a custom flavour with a desirable amount of nicotine. Vaping just PG or VG alone holds no benefits, so it is recommended that you find the right blend of PG/VG that suits you.
