Do I Want Higher PG Or VG?

Published 29 July 2022

Do I Want Higher PG Or VG?

The answer to this question solely depends on what the user would like to achieve from an e-liquid and the device used. Liquids containing a higher PG percentage are recommended if you want higher nicotine content and want to experience a throat hit like a cigarette. Whereas higher VG liquids are recommended if you want to produce a huge vapour whilst still taking in small percentages of nicotine, like 3mg and 6mg.

Some main differences between PG and VG can help you determine whether a higher PG or higher VG eliquid will suit your needs. We will now explain this in more detail:

Propylene Glycol (PG).

Propylene Glycol, also known as PG, is one of the main base ingredients used to make up e-liquid. The PG is a much thinner substance than VG, so these higher PG juices are most commonly used in the smaller pen-style devices, as they will not overheat the liquid. PG is also a better carrier of both nicotine and flavourings than VG, making it a popular choice for anyone looking for a juice containing a high nicotine strength to give them a satisfying throat hit.

Vegetable Glycerin (VG).

Vegetable Glycerin, also known as VG, is another main base ingredient used to make up e-liquid. Unlike PG, VG has a much thicker viscosity, meaning it is a much more viscous liquid.

This means that a higher VG ratio will usually be used in the bigger mod-style vapes as they require a much higher wattage delivered to the coil to vaporise the liquid.

As VG is a much thicker substance, it will produce much thicker and more dense clouds compared to PG, so these higher VG liquids are suited for users who would like to produce large clouds but still be able to intake small amounts of nicotine. Pukka Juice shortfill e-liquids are fantastic high VG e-liquids with maximum flavour.

Is Higher VG Better?

Yes. Higher VG liquids will be better if you are using a sub-ohm device, which is a device that can house a coil with a resistance of 1 ohm or below. Higher VG e-liquid has a much thicker viscosity than liquids with a higher PG ratio, so you will need a powerful device capable of vaporising the higher VG percentage.

If you're a newcomer to vaping, then a liquid containing a higher VG percentage may not be ideal for you; as most newcomers to vaping have recently switched from traditional cigarettes to a vaping device, it is more than likely that the user will need a higher nicotine strength like 12mg or 18mg for example and these higher strengths are found in higher PG liquids.

Higher VG liquids are ideal if the volume of cloud production you produce is essential to you. As the thicker substance requires a much higher temperature to begin to vaporise compared to higher PG liquids, you will need a mod-style device that will allow you to adjust the wattage high enough to vaporise the higher VG liquid resulting in producing large volumes of cloud.
